What referral do I need to see the Medical Specialists or Lung Function Testing? 

You will need a valid medical referral from your General Practitioner.​  See the section below for referrals to the CPAP Support service.

Is parking available onsite? 

Yes. Parking is available onsite but is limited.  On street parking is available.

​

Can I get to my appointment by public transport?

Yes.  Route 0840 (Oran Park to Campbelltown) operates Monday to Friday, and will drop you a short walk away on Gregory Hills Drive, opposite the Gregory Hills Hotel.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

  • A current referral from your doctor or medical specialist,

  • Any correspondence related to your referral,

  • A list of your medications and allergies (including natural preparations such as fish oil and turmeric),

  • Any previous scans / test results which are relevant to your appointment.

Does Macarthur Medical Services Bulk Bill under Medicare? 

No.  Macarthur Medical Specialists is a private medical fee for service practice. If you would prefer a Medicare bulk billing service (no gap payment), please discuss this with your GP or make an appointment with the relevant medical speciality through Camden & Campbelltown Hospital.

What fees are involved with a consultation? 

All consultations with medical specialists and for lung function testing involves both a private gap payment and Medicare payment (rebated to your bank account).

What is Respiratory & Sleep Medicine?

Respiratory & Sleep Medicine Specialists care for people who have breathing or sleep disorders.  They help diagnose, treat, manage and prevent these conditions through thorough clinical assessment, respiratory and sleep tests, the prescription of medication and advice on living well with your condition.

Does Macarthur Medical Services offer home sleep studies?

Yes we do. We offer home sleep studies after a consultation with Dr Meggitt or Dr Chung.

What is Lung Function Testing?

Lung Function Tests measure how well your lungs work, and can sometimes be useful in the diagnosis and management of many lung and sleep conditions. With the assistance of a Respiratory Scientist we can assess how much air your lungs hold, how quickly you can expel that air and many other indicators of lung health.

CPAP Support Questions:

  • Do I need a referral?  Referral from your current Sleep Physician is preferred. Referrals should include sleep study reports and Sleep Physician letter so a detailed CPAP history can be completed. Without a referral, it is difficult to make a complete review and plan for CPAP support treatment.  

 

  • Do you sell or rent CPAP equipment?  No, we are not a CPAP retailer and do not sell or rent CPAP equipment. Patients who need new equipment will be able to purchase these at their choice of retailer. We can provide a list of local CPAP retailers.

 

  • Do I need to bring equipment to the appointment?  Yes, please bring all equipment, including machine, power supply, tubing and mask(s) (even your masks that you no longer use or think don’t ‘fit’ you) and chin straps (if applicable).

 

  • Do you liaise with my sleep physician?  Yes, your referring Sleep Physician will be kept up to date of any changes that are made to your therapy.

 

  • Do I need to bring CPAP downloads to the appointment?  We will download CPAP device at your appointment. You are welcome to bring old CPAP downloads if you have them.     

 

  • How many appointments will I need?  Most patients will need just a few appointments to get you started or back on track to use your CPAP equipment effectively.

 

  • Can I book annual reviews?  Yes, you can schedule annual reviews if you wish. It is recommended that annual reviews are completed between 2-4 weeks before your sleep physician review to allow time for changes if needed.

 

  • I need medical clearance for driving / work due to my sleep apnoea diagnosis. Can the CPAP service do this for me?  No, your Sleep Physician needs to do medical clearances, however I can provide CPAP reports that allows your sleep physician to make a decision regarding your medical clearance for driving / work.
